The magnificent St. John's River flows through the middle of Lake Monroe. If you like boating, this is a terrific location. The St. Johns River flows north to Jacksonville and the Intracoastal Waterway and offers excellent fishing and boating. Hungry? Hop on your boat and enjoy one of the waterfront restaurants in the area. Within a few miles of Stone Island is a wide variety of shopping and restaurants. You feel as if you live in the country, but suburbia is just a few minutes away. Lovely tree-shaded roads wind throughout Stone Island, passing by the horse stable, wooded greenbelts, open park areas, and along the shore of Lake Monroe. A community boat ramp services Lake Monroe and the St. Johns River, and there are also tennis courts, horse stables, and conservation areas nearby. Some of the homes are located on Lake Monroe, some on canals leading to the Lake. Many others back up to wooded greenbelts.
This is a nature-lover's paradise. You will enjoy a wonderful quality of life in this neighborhood with its strong rural feeling. Stone Island is not a cookie-cutter community where every home looks alike. There is a wide variety of home styles. The community is an outdoorsy one that encourages walking, biking, and skating. An early morning jog or late afternoon walk will acquaint you with some of the nicest neighbors anyone could want!
Stone Islanders hold numerous functions throughout the year. There are Labor Day and Fourth of July picnics and parades in which children decorate their bikes and men their riding lawnmowers. It's great fun! Fishermen claim Lake Monroe and the St. Johns River are the bass capital of the world. Bring your rods and reels! There are three parks within seven miles. Gemini Springs, a natural-spring swimming area, is very beautiful, and there are bike trails throughout. Another bonus of the area is Mariners Cove Park with tennis courts, soccer fields, playgrounds, a basketball court, and a boat ramp at Lake Monroe . See all Waterbodies in Lake Monroe Canal. Also, there is Kravtz Park, a 4,000 acre natural park with trails for walking, mountain biking, and horseback riding. Primitive camping is allowed in several of these parks.
