Stone Islanders hold numerous functions throughout the year. There are Labor Day and Fourth of July picnics and parades in which children decorate their bikes and men their riding lawnmowers. It's great fun! Fishermen claim Lake Monroe and the St. Johns River are the bass capital of the world. Bring your rods and reels! There are three parks within seven miles. Gemini Springs, a natural-spring swimming area, is very beautiful, and there are bike trails throughout. Another bonus of the area is Mariners Cove Park with tennis courts, soccer fields, playgrounds, a basketball court, and a boat ramp at Lake Monroe . See all Waterbodies in Lake Monroe Canal. Also, there is Kravtz Park, a 4,000 acre natural park with trails for walking, mountain biking, and horseback riding. Primitive camping is allowed in several of these parks.
